About Us

We're a family run business with 14 years experience in the treehouse industry.

Squirrel Design has been creating dreams and constructing magic for over 14 years now. We pride ourselves in having worked on a huge variety of projects in this time, from the small bespoke timber creations for the garden, up to large luxury Treehouses for commercial and Glamping concerns.

At Squirrel we treat all our projects in the same high regard – working closely with our customers to capture the individuality of each site, applying the same imagination and inspiration to create truly bespoke structures. We realise for many, we are creating dreams that have been imagined long ago in their childhoods. It’s this magic we want to capture in designing and building your dream Treehouse or Retreat.

All the structures we build are built with harmony in mind, so it can be the perfect place for play, or just a quiet retreat to escape the stresses of everyday life.

We are here to help you fulfil your dreams. To start the magical journey please feel free to request a brochure via our contacts page. Alternatively you can call us on 0117 3258325 and speak with one of our team, who will be happy to talk through your ideas and arrange a Site Visit to explore your project further.

Squirrel Design started over 10 years ago with a vision to entice the children of today outdoors. With modern life full of portable screens and ever enticing computer games it seemed the childhood dreams and adventure of years gone by were being lost. Squirrel tree houses and outdoor structures are about reconnecting with the environment and sparking the imaginations of both young and old.

With young children of our own, we know too well the temptations of technology. Children systematically learn to operate a portable screen before they can even speak these days. We wanted to get their attention to the outdoors and the magical fun that can be had playing in the trees and sliding down a zip wire.

Through being outdoors we believe all the family can benefit hugely. Children engage with their environment and learn through energetic adventure, creating that magic we all thought lost to modern technology. With the blood pumping through our veins it makes everyone happier and healthier.

It is not just the climbing and adventure that helps us. A tranquil spot away from from iit all, is peaceful for the mind and super in helping rebalance all of us.

With all of this in mind Squirrel set on its first scamper into the world of gardens and woodlands. From our first treehouses built for family and friends we have developed an unique signature look that complements the gardens and woods for all our clients.

The Squirrel business has flourished into the multi faceted company it is today, designing and building beautiful bespoke handcrafted treehouses, retreats, offices and high end outdoor accommodation. Our Team has a perfect blend of experience, skill and enthusiasm for their craft. These individuals have come together to push Squirrel Design Treehouses onwards and upwards.

We bring the passion to ignite the magic for your dream project to become a reality.

The Team

We are a small team of highly-skilled, experienced and passionate designers, craftsmen and project managers.

Nick Low

Nick Low

Nick is a very experienced Treehouse builder. From the initial site visit to the final finishing touches, Nick will ensure your bespoke structure is designed and built to your every expectation. His experience, imagination and eye for detail mean Squirrel Design has a multi skilled Director conducting every one of our unique projects.

Outside of bespoke craftsmanship he enjoys numerous outdoor pursuits and adventures with his family.
Be it climbing in the wild mountains, or navigating the waterways of the South West in his canoe, Nick’s calm demeanour means he always achieves his goals

When not up a tree or hiking in the Welsh mountains, Nick has renovated and developed several houses. Turning his hand to all the work at one point or another, just further proving to us all that in our bespoke world of projects we have a strong leader capable of working with our clients on all aspects, no matter the challenge.

In the true spirit of healthy body healthy mind, Nick thoroughly enjoys a quiz, game of chess and is a wordsmith of note for those who dare a game of scrabble!

An avid fan of Aston Villa football club to boot.

Simon Martin

Simon Martin

Simon first came across tree houses in the wilds of Africa as a young boy. He travelled extensively with his parents and fell in love with the beautiful places they visited, and in particular the amazing structures he came across mounted high in the canopies of many exotic trees in many exotic locations.

These adventures were not forgotten as he entered his time at university studying Anthropology for 4 years and delving deeper into the lives and cultures he’d experienced in his formative years.

Later still, after moving from Norwich to The Big Smoke he entered the fashion industry working with some of the biggest players in the industry. This experience gave him the organisational skills and unique eye for detail which he now brings to his design and build work at Squirrel Design.

Working in our small team Simon brings his energy and creative pizzazz to all of our builds. Ever ready with a quick witted comment or smart anecdote he helps get the whole team through even the coldest, rainiest days of a build.

In his spare time you’re just as likely to find Simon on the Tennis courts with his young boys training them up to be the next Andy Murray’s or lost in a good book with his feet up and slippers on.
